Global Compact on Migration
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly & Regular Migration (GCM) was adopted in 2018, and is a non-binding agreement between Member States working towards a more conducive and positive environment for migration & human mobility. The global compact has 23 objectives for better managing migration at local, national, regional and global levels.
The GCM is at the heart of MYCP’s activities.
As one of the two main spaces we engage in, MYCP co-ordinate youth activities and inputs in all GCM processes to ensure the voices of young people from around the world are heard, and taken seriously by decision makers.
Youth voices in international migration policy making is what we do, and as the youth constituency mandated to serve young migrants and youth-led organisations we have three core values in our approach to the GCM: inclusivity, unity & action.
In January 2025, the MYCP Constituency decided these objectives as the youth priorities for the GCM and the 2026 IMRF

What is the GCM?
Global Compact on MigratioN
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration is the culmination of over 18 months of intensive consultations and negotiations, involving governments and other actors including civil society and the private sector. It is the first-ever global agreement on a common approach to international migration in all its dimensions.
The Global Compact for Migration represents a historic opportunity to improve international cooperation on migration, and to strengthen the contribution of migrants and migration to sustainable development. Though it is not legally binding, the GCM outlines a cooperative framework for better managing migration at local, national, regional and global levels. It compiles principles, rights and obligations from existing international law instruments regarding migration, and identifies best practices in all areas of migration.
